State Department Updates

The U.S. Department of State has issued several updates worth noting for May 2026:

Caribbean destinations including Jamaica and parts of the Eastern Caribbean remain at Level 2 (Exercise Increased Caution) primarily due to crime in certain areas. This does not mean these destinations are off the table — it means travelers should stay aware, avoid unfamiliar areas at night, and secure valuables.

Central American destinations including Honduras and parts of Guatemala have Level 3 advisories in effect for specific regions. If you are traveling to these areas, review the advisory in full before finalizing your plans.

European destinations remain largely at Level 1 and 2. The Department of State continues to issue a general terrorism awareness caution for major European cities — standard guidance that has been in place for several years.

Health Advisories

The CDC has issued updated guidance for several destinations:

Travelers to sub-Saharan Africa should ensure malaria prevention medications are up to date and appropriate for their specific destination.

Dengue fever activity is elevated in parts of the Caribbean and Central America. Mosquito protection is a must — long sleeves, repellent, and awareness of peak mosquito hours.

Routine vaccinations should always be current before any international travel.

Verify all connecting flights remain operational
