Forecasters are reporting a 70% chance of a rare Super El Niño event — and that's significant. Super El Niño years typically fuel more intense and more frequent Atlantic storm activity, which directly affects the Caribbean basin, the Gulf of Mexico, Florida, the Bahamas, and cruise itineraries across the region. Peak hurricane season runs August through October, and this year's window carries more watch-worthy conditions than we've seen in recent years.

I want to be clear: this doesn't mean the Caribbean is off the table. It means you plan smarter.

What This Means for Travelers

If you're considering a Caribbean cruise or resort getaway this year, here's what to keep in mind:

• Timing matters. Trips planned for June and early July, or in November and beyond, carry significantly lower risk than late August through October bookings. If your dates are flexible, now is the time to use that flexibility.
